Dodge is an American automotive company founded by Dodge brothers (John Francis Dodge and Horace Elgin Dodge) in 1900. First they used to make parts of the automobiles and sold them to Detroit’s automakers. It has its headquarters at Auburn Hills, Michigan and is owned by FCA US LLC which was earlier known as Chrysler Group LLC. It raises the slogan of Never Neutral Born Dodge. In 1916 a 4-cylinder Dodge Model 30 was created by Horacewhich was in competition with Ford Model T. It was during this time they earned very good reputation for best quality trucks and motor parts. In 1916 they earned the second best title of cars sale for US. Due to sudden death of the Dodge brothers the company was passed on to the Dodge’s widow and it was sold to Dillion, Read & Co. It got sold to Chrysler in 1925.
In 1955 as a unit of Chrysler they faced financial crisis due to the market trends but soon it recovered due to increased sale of Prudential and newly styled Virgil Exner.. In 1970s era its vehicles were mainly full sized passenger cars and trucks. In 1973 due to oil crisis in America they had to go for small and mid- sized cars which were based on K Platform. It was introduced in 1980s and was responsible for the revival of their business.
From 1998 to 2009 Dodge has survived various ownership change under Chrysler. In 1998 DaimlerChrysler was formed by Chrysler collaborated with Daimler-Benz, at this time its sister brand Plymouth was withdrawn from the market. The collaboration ended up in 2007. It shared the platform with a German company; 2005 Magnum Station wagon, a replacement of Intrepid. In 2008, on the same platform Charger got launched. It also shared platform for cost saving with Misubishi and it gave rise to Caliber which replaced the Avenger sedan and the Neon. In 2009, Fiat collaborated with Chrysler. In 2011 Dodge’s two branches Ram and Viper were separated in which former was a manufacturer and later an SRT but later SRT got merged with Dodge again. In 2014 Chrysler became FCA US LLC and merger of Fiat with it was called Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
